REAL HIP HOP SHOW INTERVIEW

MALICIOUS

1/ hi Malicious... please let's talk about you

I come from a city where the language isn't in my favor....Radio doesn't support Hiphop...T.v. doesn't support hiphop.. and I'm still making waves...

2/ Why malicious ?
if you go by the definition one word always accompinies malice and that's "intent". I'm known for being a thinker and I often get labeled for doing things for the wrong reasons. I of course disagree however the name was given to me and it stuck.I also go by Mr. Malish

3/ When did you start to be an mc ?

Started out on stage as a hypeman for my older cousin and learnt the tricks of the trade from him (R-kade). At the age 15, I was the youngest in the city aside from A-trak to hit the stage and open up for the likes of Redman, Keith Murray,Genius, and Too short.

4/ Your sounds are very eclectic with some strong original beats... how would you define your style ?
My style is BUILDING, My style of beat making is border line neurotic. I love to peice together my beats piece by piece. When sampling I like the challenge of piecing 3 or 4 different songs together to make a new beat. I'm often disappointed when I hear a producer take a straight loop. Don't it twisted some loops are perfect but I like to build my beats .

5/ What are your influences ?

Any and everything. Of course there are the m.c.s we all love Common, Jay-z,etc. but I'm influenced by good music. I'm influenced by creative beatmakers, emcees, to movies, and art. Anything that can keep me attentive.

6/ How do you choose your beats ? do you produce too ?
Hot I'll rock it. It's that simple. I'm lucky I get to work with some of the hottest producers in the city. I decided to pick up beat making to further express my creativity.

7/ were you born in Canada ?
Yeah, Montreal Quebec . Both my parents are from Barbados though... Island blood baby!!

8/ How is the Hip Hop Scene over there ?
I'd like to say it's coming along but the powers that be want to keep it on low. The government helps out with funding for projects but radio, t.v. and club promoters seem to be a few years back in terms of support. I agree not every project is up to the level of indie rock bands but the ones that are still seem to be getting over looked. I plan on changing that.

9/ A lot of people talk about you as the best Canadian mc....what do you think about it ?
That right....It's a good thing I'm not trying what would they say then hahaha. Just playin' . I feel honored. I think it's about taking risk and thinking outside the box, better yet outside the room. This country has alot talent I'm proud to represent.

10/ I would like to know if you have more success in Canada than in The US ...
I feel im still on the come up. My album ain't drop yet but you wouldn't know by the heavy promo OdoubleF has been granting your boy! I think my spins above and below the border have been decent with definite room for improvement. Good thing I still got some hits on stash.

11/ Do you think that there is a difference in the Rap Game and Hip Hop Culture between Canada and USA ?
It depends where you go in both countries. I feel there is a certain type of hiphop the rest of the world wants to hear from Canada , humble life loving hiphop. That's not always to case everywhere in the country. My style is energetic wild and about the party. L.A. or Miami ain't the only ones having a good time. I'm from the party capital of Canada .

12/ You have a Big Promotion with your label Odoublef Records & AIRES Entertainment... please let us know how do you work to build your success.
It's just that- we keep working. I help run the label and am very hands on with my project. We're trying to be global and if you think about time zones around the world someone's always up. That person needs a cd! Shout out to BiZ GRINDER SUPREME!

13/ Please let's talk about your album
For the last couple of years hip hops sound has become minimal. Less music and more chidlike beats/songs. I'm happy to say my album has a full sound and more then a radio single. I wanted to show my range as an M.C. as well as a Producer. From underground heaters to club bangers there's something for everybody

14/ What's your futures projects ?
want to work on movie soundtracks, a next album. I would also like to work with other artist. If you need fyaahhh HOLLA.

15/ Some words to close the interview, thanks.....
This is the START....Music starts with M. Look to the North for something new. I'm coming. Big up to my people in France !
